What size to rent?
DumpRunner’s roll off waste containers are suitable for trash, junk, demolition debris, construction waste, yard waste and just about anything else you can think of. Efficient waste management requires more than just a truck with a couple of bins. It requires experience, knowledge, the right equipment, and the ability to make things happen for the customer. We’ve said it elsewhere, but waste collection, and waste disposal is our life!
There are four main sizes of dumpsters for rent in the 12, 20, 30, and 40 cubic yard range. We also have specialized 10 yard rock boxes suitable for heavy loads of dirt or concrete.
Contractors typically order every size bin in the fleet for their waste management needs, but for a residential homeowner there are a few important things to note.
Typically, a 12 or 20 yard container rental is the maximum recommended size if we are dropping on a residential driveway. If you need some extra protection, just ask our dispatcher for wood to be placed under the rollers (no extra charge for this). Both size bins will easily fit on one side of a double wide driveway. If you need the door to open, we will do our best to accommodate this request. On short driveways, we recommend opening the garage door, and then opening the bin door. Just remember to shut the bin door before ordering a pickup.
Our trucks are just under 9 feet wide at the mirrors. and 23 feet in length. When dropping the container, we need enough combined space to drop the bin, have the truck extended out the front, and have a safe maneuvering space. For this reason, we usually do not recommend the much larger 30 and 40 yard containers at residential addresses unless we have safe clearances and sufficient room. If you require these sizes, just call our dispatchers and explain your needs; we’ll do what we can to make it work for you!

12 Cubic Yard Dumpster

This size bin is the “Jack of All Trades”. The 12 yard is used by homeowners and commercial contractors alike for virtually any job you can think of. With a smaller footprint, they fit easily inside a parking stall or onto a residential driveway yet hold a surprising amount of material.

While this container holds 66% more volume than a 12 yard, they are only 4 feet longer and one foot wider. Our 20’s can be delivered to most residential locations, and will also fit comfortably to one side of a typical double car width driveway. The 20 is extremely popular with contractors on demolition sites.

30 yard containers are used primarily on commercial construction sites. They are a large bin, and require a tandem axle truck to deliver and service. As such, there are certain space and maneuvering criteria to be met if this container is requested for a residential location. 30 yarders can still be loaded from the side, but it does involve lifting material to above chest height.

40 yard Containers are the big boys of the fleet, and are the largest size of “industry standard” container. These bins are most suited to commercial and industrial applications producing large volumes in a short timeframe. Some are equipped with double doors at the back to facilitate easier loading by hand. Special considerations are necessary for this size bin. 10 Cubic Yard Rock Bin (specialized)
10 Cubic Yards or 7.6 Cubic Metres

Our 10 yard rock bins (also known as a concrete bin, or dirt bin) are specialized dumpsters designed to be easily loaded from ground level. They are capable of handling 9000kg of payload. Rock bins MUST NOT be loaded beyond the side rail height. When filling with dirt or gravel, it is VERY important to understand the density of the material to prevent over-weight loading of the container.
Ideal for:
- loose concrete chunks, basketball size, level load to side rails
- small chips of concrete, load to level 3/4 full
- dirt, sand, wet soil, load to level 3/4 full
- do not pile all the weight up front, or at the rear. Please endeavor to spread the load out evenly
- you may open the door to load, but you MUST shut and latch the door prior to calling for pickup
